Session Tips

The goal of any portrait is to direct the viewer’s eye to the face(s) in the portrait. All other elements should be secondary. For individuals, simple long-sleeved solid colored garments are a must. Stay away from bold stripes, plaids, checks and prints, they are usually confusing and do not photograph well.

Couples should choose simple garments that are within the same tonal range. Simply put, don’t have one of you wear black and the other white. There will be visual confusion within the portrait. One person becomes dominant and will appear heavier than they really are.

Just as one coordinates the design of a room in their home, preparing for a portrait should involve that same kind of thought and preparation.
